Adrian Peterson finishes 9 yards short of single season rushing record, still might be a cyborg

Somewhere, Eric Dickerson is dancing down the street in celebration. That is the only reaction I can think of when I imagine how the NFL all time single season rushing leader feels now that he can still call himself that. Admit it folks, he is DANCING!

I may not have footage of that, but whenever I’m in doubt, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is a pretty good measuring stick of someone elses joy.

With the dust settling on the 2012 NFL regular season, one fact stands out amongst all the highlights and lowlights of the year. That is, without a doubt, Adrian Peterson has had one of the most incredible “comeback seasons” in NFL history.

No, that isn’t right.

Adrian Peterson has had one of the most incredible SEASONS in NFL history.  Period.

(Yes Peyton, I see you there)

After tearing his ACL late last season, there were many who doubted whether or not AP would be able to continue at his high level of play once he returned. That’s just how it goes with NFL running backs. They have an incredibly short shelf life and something like an ACL tear can completely ruin your career.

Of course that only matter to human beings, not cyborgs (which at this point I have no choice but to assume Adrian Peterson is).

Eric Dickerson has held the single season rushing yards record since 1984, and was pretty outspoken regarding his desire to see AP fail to break it. He received a lot of flack for his attitude, but I find it refreshing to see an old record holder be honest about wanting to remain a record holder. You know they all feel that way, Dickerson just had the stones to say it.

(Plus, how can you hate someone this fly?)

Having said that, I was still rooting for AP… all day.

It was a helluva performance and although he made he case for MVP and got his team into the playoffs, Adrian Peterson came 9 yards short of breaking the 2,107 mark held by Dickerson. The worst thing about that is when the nation watched his post-game interview with sideline reporter/idiot Pam Oliver, they got to see her break the news to him.

There are many ways to find out you didn’t do something epic, but having Pam Oliver tell you is definitely worse.

In lieu of footage, I present this as a fairly accurate representation of that moment.

So even though he came up short, he was a class act in stating (predictably) that the playoff berth is more important, the team comes first ect ect blah blah blah.

He was less than a first down from history, but coming back from a horrific injury and straight up DOMINATING will be remembered for years to come.

Hats off to you, Adrian Peterson. Hopefully your programming allows you to understand you had an amazing year.

You can follow j.Bow on twitter (@jBowmancouver). He has just started to accept that he will never break Eric Dickerson’s rushing record either. I know how AP feels.
